Kappa Delta is holding its sixth annual “Shamrock the Rope” event on Feb. 18 in the Burt Kahn Gymnasium. The event is a tug of war competition and all proceeds go nationally to Prevent Child Abuse America and locally to The Children’s Center of Hamden.
In addition to the competition, there will be vendors, food and a half time performance from the Dance Fusion team. There will also be guest speakers from the Children’s Center of Hamden.
According to Kappa Delta’s vice president of community service Alexis Segal, The Children’s Center of Hamden has created a safe and healthy environment for children who have faced abuse and neglect throughout their childhood. “Kappa Delta has a very close relationship with The Children's Center of Hamden,” Segal said. “In the past much of our money has gone to interactive and therapeutic programs for the children who live there or takes buses their daily. Our donations have funded a therapeutic music studio, a new kitchen and greenhouse to fuel the culinary program and picnic tables for families to use when they visit their children.”
Prevent Child Abuse America receives 20 percent of the proceeds from the event and The Children’s Center of Hamden receives 80 percent. Kappa Delta will also host events throughout the week to raise additional funds.
Segal said, “Kappa Delta would like to thank everyone who has supported the event in the past and looks forward to all of the attendants and participants this weekend!”
