The Computer Information Systems Society is hosting the Business Analytics Workshop and Challenge, which is open to all majors. The top three competitors will be awarded cash prizes of $700, $500, and $300 respectively. Registration for the competitors (individuals and teams) are due by Monday, February 12. The link to the submission form is located here: https://forms.quinnipiac.edu/DataAnalyticsCompetition/form.html
Assistant Professor of Computer Information Technology Dr. Rachida Parks said that competitors will be given until February 18 to solve their chosen problem. The three problems that are available to solve are: “How can you predict which movies will be a hit or a bust”, “Does speed matter in e-commerce,” and “How can you eliminate the harmful effects of smoking on society.” The data used in these problems will be real data provided by QVC, NBC Universal, and Pfizer.
Jones said the point of the challenge is to give competing students an analytics experience that might be applicable to their careers.
“To mimic industry collaborations and interdisciplinarity (sic), I put together an analytics workshop and a challenge with all majors in mind. The challenge does not confine the students to one analytical tool but rather focuses on 1) collaborations among different majors and 2) actionable items through the data analysis,” she said by email.
