In support of sexual assault awareness month, the Quinnipiac group Women In Support of Humanity will host “Take Back The Night” Monday April 9. The annual event is a step toward “shattering the silence” and “stopping the violence” regarding sexual assault and domestic violence, according to WISH Public Relations Officer Mikaela Rooney.
The event will bring community members together in Quinnipiac’s Mount Carmel Auditorium and allow survivors to share their stories in a safe place, Rooney added.
“This event educates the public while empowering those who have unfortunately been affected by sexual assault,” Rooney said. “Survivors of sexual assault are so often silenced, but Take Back the Night gives them an opportunity to share their story and bring light to this very serious national problem, while also starting or continuing the survivor’s healing process.”
While this event is in support of shedding light on sexual assault, it’s also meant to advocate for a better campus climate.
“We hope that this event leads to a safer, better informed campus,” Rooney said. “Additionally, we want to make survivors and allies feel safe, heard and accepted on campus.”
